A web server is a computer with a boot device or other disk containing a web site, also referred to as an application that helps a computer to preform. If one site uses more than one server than they must use different port numbers. Several host names may be mapped to the computer in which they are known as virtual servers.

The IP address and domain name sends a request to the sever, and the server then finds the page and sends it to your browser. Typically users will visit web sites by clicking on a hyperlink that will bring them directly to a sites URL in the address bar of a browser.
